Hi all.

I have seen it recommended several times that it's best to extract CD data to HD then burn to CD. Why is this so?

Thanks, Happy New Year.

CD-ROM drives can read inconsistantly. If the CD-ROM drive that is being read from happens to hiccup, you'll have ruined your burn. With today's faster CD-ROMs, this isn't that big a deal, mind you, and I've done several disc-to-disc burns without a hitch.

Yeah don't worry about it. I always to disc to disc and haven't had a single coaster from that ever, so...
Its like all the stuff about unplugging SCSI and all that. It can and has happened, but won't (don't complain about my logic, it works fine!).

But watch out if you have a slower burner or CD drive. If the buffer underruns (eats up all of its data before getting anything new) you will end up with a coaster. Don't get a burner with less than 2MB of buffer memory, you'll just be asking for troubles.
