my 17" flat panel has a thin verical red $ blue line on the screen. Any sugestions?

take it back and return it. if you had a pixel here or there, the firm that made the panel would probably say tough, but if you have an entire line, you've got grounds for a new unit.

it is most certainly a defect in the monitor unless you have some sort of funky red/blue one-line screen saver thing going...
