"New iPod Software 1.1 adds a Contacts menu to store your address book and a new Equalizer with more than 20 presets and independent settings for each song.

Your iPod’s hard drive now holds more than just music: with the new Contacts feature, iPod lets you view names and addresses downloaded from programs like Entourage, Palm Desktop, and the Mac OS X Address Book.*

You can also store your presentations, pictures, documents, and even entire digital movies on your iPod, then carry them across town or across the country in your pocket.

Your music will now sound even better on iPod. A high-output amplifier provides CD-quality sound with an extremely wide dynamic range. And you can customize your listening experience with more than 20 equalizer presets that you can assign through iTunes or on your iPod itself. The result is deep, pulse-pounding bass and sharp, crystal-clear highs."

Probably not so good. But that's business.

I feel great about it — Apple isn't resting on its laurels and is making sure us early adopters get access to the new features.

Now, will someone hurry up and update his/her iPod and iTunes and then confirm for the rest of us that there aren't any nasty installer issues

can we assume the auto-syncing will be available in future version of addressbook.app and mail.app? Seems logical, actually seems like they should be able to do it now, almost as if they don't want to overemphasise the non-MP3 functionality.

I havn't any problems updating, and I think it sounds a lot better with the EQ, even with it off. I can't seem to get my Address book to export all of my addresses but I don't have many.

Update ran smoothly, DP550 / OS 9.2.2. I like the added features. iPod sounds great on the OEM buds, can't wait to get to work and try my Koss Pro/4AAA's. Don't use OS X enough to have addresses yet, did you download the Applescripts too?

The EQ is great! My iPod has never sounded better. However I was a little disapointed that the iPod doesn't keep the Equilizer Presets I have already assigned to the songs in iTunes. Oh well, maybe with the next software update. Haven't tried out the contact yet

damn, i just typed a whole page and i lost it.

oh well here it goes again,

The updater has no problems yet
I Like it

The settings page has had some major changes new "legal" and "EQ - (type)" and "Info" section

the contact window is along with the playlists and sutch

you can go from contact to contact by pressing the fast foreward and back buttons

the time remaining and the time elapsed are both displayed when playing

when the middle button is pressed when playing a little diamond appears in the play bar and you can skip to sections of the song w/ the scroll wheel

more languages and stuff!

I hope I have provided enough info! Peace!

P.D.

to get the address book contents onto your iPod, simply drag the address book items onto the "Contacts" folder of the iPod (in the Finder).

they appear as vcf files...

took me a minute to figure it out, but when all else fails, try dragging. it's a mac after all.

The game is still there it is under legal just hold the button there. And The Contacts just drag and drop from the address book itself.

This confuses me, too. But it seems like according to the help file the iPod EQ just has to be set to something other than Off and then it uses whatever EQ setting for that particular song you have set in iTunes, but it doesn't show on the Pod's EQ menu item -- just shows whatever manual setting you made on the Pod. But it actually plays with the iTunes setting. I think. Clarification on this from someone who really knows how to use it would be great.

I'm picking up a 10gig iPod today, so I'll see if the 10gig model at factory config handles the EQ settings differently.

5GB iPod is $399.
10GB iPod ("2,000 songs in your pocket.") is $499.

Update to 1.1 went flawlessly for me. One confusing thing that may have been obvious to some of you that wasn't for me, however... Is that you have to download the 1.1 Updater. I thought "Hey, I already have the iPod Software Updater. I'll just run that and get the update. That is what it's for, right!?" Well, no. The updater I already had was useless. You have to get the new one.

I used the Entourage X AppleScript to move my contacts and it worked pretty well. Still haven't figured out just how it brings everything over. There seems to not be much consistency. Sometimes e-mail address is above the home address. Sometimes home address is first. Stuff like that.

Well, seems like, amazingly enough, I was right about how the EQ works. Check out KB article 61567. If the EQ is set to off on the Pod, no EQ setting is used, even you set one in iTunes 2. If it set to anything other than off, it plays with iTunes setting if there is one, or the Pod setting if there isn't one. Changing the Pod EQ setting changes the EQ for that song for the duration of one play, then reverts to the iTunes 2 setting for that song. But, the iTunes 2 EQ setting does not show in the Pod's EQ menu. So, as long as you have the EQ set in iTunes and the Pod set to something other than off, you iTunes-assigned EQ settings will be used by the Pod. If you set all or most of your EQ settings in iTunes, then just set your Pod EQ to Flat and your iTunes EQ settings will be used.

I really don't understand the point of having contacts in the iPod. Isn't that what a Day Planner or a PDA is for? I mean, you can't edit contacts on the iPod. I don't know, I just don't get it. I thought it was cool that some 3rd party developer made an application so you could have contacts on your Pod but why is Apple doing this? If they want to release a PDA, release a PDA but why spend all of that time coding in a contacts feature on an MP3 player? Just doesn't make sense.

I think contacts in the iPod makes a lot of sense...at least for me. I seem to really on use my handspring for phone numbers. Now I could have music, some files and contacts all in one. And you can get to the info using one hand.

What I don't understand is why the iPod has been limited to 1000 Vcards. Is it just cooler marketing to say 1000 contacts in your pocket or is this really a limitation? It's hard to believe that the whole iPod couldn't be used for contacts if that is what you wanted to do.

They're trying to make the iPod more marketable. It's more than just an Mp3 player now. It's also a contact database. Who knows what Apple has in store next...

The more fautures they add the better.I don't want to carry with me a million gadgets.I don't want to carry my agenda for the contacts my iPod for the music my cell for phones and stuff like that.I don't have huge pockets and I feel very uncomfortable with all this equipment. If they could manage to transform the iPod to a cell phone (!!!) I would be very happy!!!
Besides the kidding think about it.The fewer stuff you carry with you the better you can move around.I don't want a huge bag that I'll have to open and close a million time a day just to make different tasks. The meaning of technology is to make life easier not more complicated.

It would be nice if someone made some games for the iPod. Personally I think Breakout sucks, it's a poor rendition of the classic. Anyone know of any iPod game hacks?
