Hi,

my Maxtor 1394 external storage 80 GB is not recognized by my Computer ( iMac DV SE 400, Firmware 2.4, FireWire 2.5 ) after a cold boot. However when i restart the system or when i plugg the firewire cables out and back in again it is mounted. Does anyone have a solution.
Is there a possibility that because this external drive is no "native" firewire device it does not work properly with the FireWire extensions?

I have the same problem with my EZQuest 30 GB Firewire HD. My solution is to boot the 'puter, fire up the HD and then attach HD to firewire port. Inelegant, but functional.

Yes, that way it works. Itīs ok for me becouse i use the drive for DV movie file storage and data back-ups and i donīt need it as a startup volume.
It seems this whole FireWire issue is still in itīs early days.

Even already having 9.0.4 installed, I had to go to Apple web site to upgrade Firewire extensions to v.2.5 to get my external firewire drive to work right. You might make sure you have the latest versions.

I have three different Firewire HD's and noticed that one of them installed an extension called firewire disk support 1.0.1. It is not a standard apple extension, but after installed on several different macs, the software from other FW drives is not needed...
My Maxtor runs fine... and I was able to get rid of all of the other extensions that Maxtor software installed.

I'd be interested in firewire disk support also. Do you have a website for it? Where can I get firewire 2.6? Apple only has 2.5 as far as I can see.

Sorry, missed the second part of your question... Firewire 2.6 is a part of Mac OS CPU Software 2.6 which is shipping with newer iMacs and G4's. My guess is that it will be a part of 9.1... I Let me know, I can email you the extensions (since I got them as a part of the OS, and not pirated or any part of a seed)...
