Ditto here My next car will no doubt have a CD player, but I don't miss one at all.

yeah! I use a tape adapter, too, for my RIO 500. I'll continue to use that when I get my iPod. I've even seen dashboard mounting kits for the iPod. The only drawback is the wire dangling from your iPod to your cassette deck (and that some cassette decks don't accept these tape adapters), but otherwise, it's great!

Does anyone know of a way to make a headphone jack part of the cars audio system?
The funny thing is, I never used my tape deck before (not even once), I always used my changer. Now, Im not using the changer since everything is on my iPod.

I use a tape adapter at work with our stereo there. I am able to listen to decent music all night long without hearing the same song twice. It is awesome!

I hooked up my iPod to my tape deck yesterday and was really surprised at how good it sounded. I guess my CD burner will be relegated to making backup CDs now

Hiya Sean -
Glad to hear you got an iPod too. Awesome little toy.
If you've got a CD changer in your car, you should be able to run the 'Pod directly into the changer's input to the receiver. I have a Pioneer head and the adapter from them cost about 40 bucks. Now I have a cord with a 1/8" stereo plug hanging out of the dash to plug the 'Pod into. Screw the radio and CD's. Picked up a cell phone cradle from Radio Shack that sticks to the windshield via a big suction cup. Hasn't fallen off yet and the temp's been down to almost zero. It squeezes the 'Pod on the sides with some foam and has a foot for the 'Pod to bottom on. Perfect setup.
Zack

To Keda, After I bought my ipod, I rushed to get myself a casette adapter for my Jeep TJ. It's a Sony. The sound is OK and it's good enough for me. I haven't listenned to news radio in my Jeep for the last 3 weeks.

I have been using the cassette adaptor (Radio Shack). I do notice a hiss, but adjusting the iPod volume to just below my stereos 'tolerance' masks the hiss.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on installing a radio/CD/cassette with a mini-plug. I saw one for sale at Best Buy. Anyone using a built-in mini-plug? Is the sound okay? I would imagine it is better than the tape adaptor.

Prufrock-
If you're talking about a direct electrical connection, from the iPod to a stereo input(wires), that's what I was talking about. It sounds great.
Sean - what do you drive? I saw where a guy spent 100.00+ for an adapter for his BMW that's the same as the one I got for 40 bucks.
The adapter would go on the receiver head in your dash.

I've been using a Tape Adapter w/ my Nomad Jukebox for what seems like years now (ok, only 1. But it was a long year, ok?)
I had a quick test run of my iPod in my car with a Sony Tape adapter from The Apple Store, and the sounds quality was pretty good.
All in all though, I think I liked my gold plated Memorex (bought at the UCONN co-op) with my Nomad better. Plus, I've picked up a Radio Shack car power cable for it so the batteries don't run out.
Plus, the Nomad feels better in the car, and i'm pretty used to hitting the track-advace button now. I basicly use my Nomad for travel now, and my iPod for carrying around the latest tunes and as firewire backup.

Zac, now that the holidays are over, I want to try this. Ill things being equal, Ill take the $40 one.
I have a 98 M3. Ive taken my console apart, but never looked at the back of the head unit. I there an input there for this plug? Also, whats the part called?
On a side note, I got a miniplug to RCA adapter and on New Years Eve, I used iPod, a playlist, and my stereo system to keep the music rolling all night.
