hi all!
so apple is hopping on the bluetooth bandwagon with the d-link usb bluetooth adapter working with macs. that's fine, but could this interfere with systems with airport/802.11b?
now, while they both share the same band on the EM spectrum (2.4-2.483 GHz), bluetooth (if the info i've read is correct) uses a frequency hopping signal that 'hops' around the 83 MHz band; couldn't this cause interference with 802.11b networks?
now, from the stuff i've seen on apple's site, it seems that they consider bluetooth as the wireless counterpart of usb/firewire connectivity. so i'm guessing that apple would probably only support the lowest of the three power transmission modes of bluetooh, that being 1 mW. (the other modes being 2.5 mW and 100 mW... ...airport puts out a nominal 15 dBm, which is around 30 mW, now that may cause some airport havoc!)
is there anyone out there who's run into problems using bluetooth enabled devices in an 802.11b network?

Dunno, but I'm sure I'll post if I have any problems. I'm so happy that Apple is releasing a Bluetooth driver, and someone is making a handy little USB peripherial! I use Airport, so we'll see if there are any conflicts.

That was one of the initial problems they had, but they've resolved those issues.

That's really good to hear, Nebrie - do you have any links to specifics on how they solved it?

yes, i was looking for any specifics on this also. i mean, it's too significant to just gloss over and say "well, they fixed those issues."

From my recent talks with Apple Tech ('bout 2 weeks ago), the bluetooth people were lazy and claim that the problem wasn't theirs. 802.11b people obviously doesn't admit they are at fault, so there haven't been much resolution yet. I'd be interested to know how and when those issues are resolved...

Bluetooth hops around but doesn't check to see if the channel is in use before hopping. Airport hops too, but is polite, and checks to see if it's in use before it hops. That was the major hangup prior to this..
I'm curious as to how Apple worked around that... Anybody know?
