scanners - reduing imported image size???

	Hi, I have an Epson 640 u perfection series, and have a quesition. Whenever i scan an image for email or to an application, the image size is huge, I mean gargantuan... I don't want to send an image this large. Why is it so much larger and how do I change it to send or keep. I just want it to be the same size as the original paper. Yes, in adobe, which opens when I click on the image, I can change the size to view. But, it reverts back to the original size when I close the window. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong... Thanks for your help in advance. M
