I got an RCA Lyra player for Christmas, and I can not get it to work on my computer. I have an orginal G3-266 / 160 MB RAM w/ OS 9.0.4.

On RCA's website, there is software(MusicMatch Jukebox) to download that you can use to transfer music onto the compactflash card. I am using a SANDisk CF card reader. I downloaded all the correct drivers from SanDisk, but MusicMatch does not recognize the card. The CF card will mount on my desktop, but not in MusicMatch.

So I have no way of getting music from my computer onto the CF card.

Can anybody help me?

What is the MP3 player's interface? Serial? USB?
If it's USB (and you have a card in your computer) then you should download Mass Storage Drivers from Apple.

That's his problem - there is no interface on a RCA Lyra player - it comes with a Compact Flash reader/writer that is supposed to hook into the parallel port and keyboard port of your home computer.

RCA recently teamed up with MusicMatch to get Mac compatibility with the Lyra which requires encrypted MP3s to be uploaded to it (this is to prevent MP3s from being transferred by the Lyra - it will encode any existing MP3 into the encrypted format - so no copy protection on what goes into the Lyra - only what comes out).

This compatiblity requires one to either buy from RCA or get oneself a CompactFlash reader/writer that works with your Mac.

Have you tried reformatting the disk to see if that helps? Also, if it is USB, make sure you do have the latest drivers from Apple.

Good luck - I just won a Lyra from my work - I hope I can get mine to work with my iBook...

the CF card reader is the SanDisk USB imagemate.

I tried to download the Mass Storage drivers from Apple, when I tried to run the installer, it said that it could not run on my computer, and to consult the documentation. The read-me file said nothing about this.

I'm running OS 9.0.4, and the only other thing I can think of is that I am using a PCI USB card. I have the latest drivers for the PCI card, and I have never had any other problems with it. I have a CD Burner and a joystick, and they both work fine.

Any other suggestions?

By the way, the CF card reader for PC that comes with the LYRA works fine. I tried it on a friend's computer and it worked.

I had the same issue. I emailed the guys at MusicMatch and currently their software only supports the RCA branded USB reader which you can order from RCA for like $60 (RIPOFF). Fortunately I have an old PC laying around that I'm using to transfer my MP3's over from (I burn the MP3s onto a CD using my iBook, then import them on the PC in RealJukeBox).

I don't know if they plan on supporting the Sandisk anytime soon, but if you email them and I email them, who knows? So drop them a line if you can.

Hope this info helps.
Mike
