Does anyone know if smart credit card readers will ever support the Mac, specifically OS X?

I would be surprised. I have been after Amex (Blue) to do something about this for ages, but they give me the standard excuse of "no mac users"
Argh
If its already broken, how can I mess it up by trying to fix it?
