What could it mean.

I guess it means Apple registered ipod.com, so that no one else would

It just means that Apple registered another one of its products as a domain name, sort of like imac.com or powerbook.com. My guess is that it's for people who don't know those products are made by Apple and are supported on its website. No big deal.
