I guess it depends on what you want to use it for, but in general it's a good scanner. Good mostly for flat art, that is. Yes, it comes with attachments so you can scan slides and transparencies, but I wouldn't take that option too seriously. The scans may be okay for strictly web work, but I wouldn't use it for print. No way.
I have tried both the Epson 1250 and the Canon 1240U and ended up buying the Canon, It's less expensive, doesn't require a power outlet (uses power from the usb line), and works great. It's very slim, compact, and you can easily unplug it and put it on your bookshelf or someplace when you're not using it. That was a big selling point with me.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. Oh, and if you happen to have a membership at a place like Costco or Sams, check out scanners there. I bought my Canon @ Costco for cheaper than I could find anywhere on the net.
