Hi, another stupid question.
I want to get a decent video card for my PCI powermac, ie if I can afford it a Voodoo 5. I was thinking this would be great for game play and I have an Applevision 1710 monitor which is a few years old.I know at the moment the monitor can be run at greater resolutions and colors than I have it set on. If I have a decent graphics card can this old monitor be able to display and handle the best results this card can give me?

Um... not so sure about that. No matter what the card can handle, its largely up to the monitor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no matter what card you have, an ASD 17" for example can't handle greater than 1600*1200, true? Same for the ASD 21"... I think...

The usual resoloution on a 17" is 1024*768, or possibly 1280*1024, and the Applevision should handle that.

One other thing: don't buy into the Voodoo myth - they're not market leaders anymore. Nvidias boards and ATIs new Radeon are both better.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

If you want to save some $$, but still want a decent consumer-level card, get a Voodoo 3 2000. 3Dfx has a $30 rebate going on for them now, to clear them out for the Voodoo5's. I ended-up paying about $60 for mine, including shipping, after the rebate. It's breathed some new life into my old 7600.

V5 would be great for games, but that seems to be an overkill...I agree with Paul C on that you should get a V3 2000 or V3 3000 for around US$ 60 to US$ 150 instead...unless you are planning on putting that V5 into your next computer's PCI slot and have dual monitor support with one Radeon and one V5...then that'd kick some serious a**!!! ^_^
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...
