I have a 1GB External JAZ drive that all of a sudden will not read either of my 1GB disks. I've tried Disk Tools, DFA, Norton and Disk Warrior to diagnose, reformat and even erase..all to no avail.

it may be that they have just gone past their usability... this happens...

have you done a 'long erase' on these disks? this can sometimes shorten the life of Jaz disks, the info posted in a number of places on the web is somewhat unclear as to why this occurs

Yes, I've tried the long erase. My intention was to partially erase the data and hopefully recover the rest. But, nothing happens. What is the average lifespan of a Iomega JAZ drive anyways. I'd think it would be more than the two years I've had mine I've contacted Iomega and they say it is out of warranty and that I have to pay them $150 for a replacement. I can get a cheaper one thru MacMall for $120.

Does anyone think that the data on the disks, itself, is lost? Or, is it just the hardware thats kaput?
