I'm having the same problem with my CD Revo 12x10x24 CD-RW. I've had it for several months now, and it always worked fine. It never was truly "hot swappable" in OS X ... but a reboot always seemed to get my system to "see" it. However, the other day it just started flaking out. I rebooted into OS 9 to use Toast to copy a CD ... and my Cube didn't see the drive. I rebooted again and still no luck. When I rebooted for a third time things went downhill. All of a sudden, my Cube would simply lockup. After awhile I figured out that the machine would lock if the drive was plugged in. Unplugging it returned things back to normal. I rebooted back into OS X to see if the problem was with OS 9, but I got the same results. I unplugged my FW hard drive and plugged the CD-RW into that port to see if I had a bad port on the Cube ... but the drive still didn't work. I then switched firewire cables, and still no lucik.
At that point, I figured that the problem wasn't the OS and it wasn't due to a bad port on the Cube, and it wasn't due to a bad cable. So it must be the drive itself? It's just strange that I have this problem with BOTH ports on the back of the drive all of a sudden. I just successfully burned a CD a week ago, and all of a sudden a drive that hasn't been used since doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
