I recently purchased a Formac 24x10x40x cd-r burner. As a quick test I decided to burn several audio cds. It takes approx. 20 minutes or more to burn a 48 min audio cd. It takes approx 3 mins to Fill the Ram Cache, 1 min to write the lead in and the remaining 16 or more second to write the songs to the cd.

Is this normal? Is there a problem with the cdr burner? Should I upgrade to Titanium?

I am using Toast 5 Lite, with a Cube and gig of ram. I am using Sony media burning the cds at 16x. Also the Formac cd burner shows up as a Generic in my sytem profiler. Help anyone?!

All suggestions, feedback are welcome.

Thanks
meerteen

Something is wrong there.. Although it's hard to say what. But as an example.. my 8 X burner will pop out an audio CD of around 70 minutes length or so, in about 9 minutes. Naturally, If this were capable of 16X burning speed, then the same CD should be completed in just over 4 minutes..

All I can recomend is that you double check all your settings, Like burn speed, cache setting blah blah etc etc..

I tried your suggestions. Increasing the ram cache under the preferences in toast as well as allocating more memory to toast itself. I find that increasing the ram cache takes the filling in the ram cache section longer to complete, thereby increasing the total burn time. Decreasing the write time seems to me will take more time to burn. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your feedback.
