I hope someone can give me a clue for the following problem:
I bought an external SATA-enclosure with USB 2.0, FW 400, 800 and SATA connectors for my spare original 80 GByte Hitachi drive from my G5 (Dual 1,8, June 2005). The enclosure is an ONNTO TB-M120.
The speed is fine especially over FW 800, but I can´t boot from that drive.
I tried several installations from my workin 10.4.7 (with CarbonCopyCloner and also via Apple´s Disk Utility). I can select the drive as start volume but my Mac always boots form the internal drive then. The same system put on an other Firewire drive boots without problems.
Then I tried to install a clean Tiger system, but the external SATA drive is not selectable in the according dialog box.
Is it possible that SATA-Drives can only boot with a SATA connection? (Couldn´t try because I have no SATA-Controller-Card for external Drives)
