Ik have this little firewire drive that I use with my powerbook g3 500. But the icon of the drive on the desktop cannot be renamed.

The only name it has is "untitled" and macos 9.0.4 installationcd cant format it either.

I want to rename it to "external drive" and give it a cool firewire-icon instead of the boring grey box saying "pc"

any suggestions?

Make sure that filesharing is off. You can't rename a shared device.
