Okay okay.. So Apple isn't sure about making the iPod windows capable right now.. No iTunes, they don't make the hardware/software etc etc.. But now, what about Firewire disk mode??? We just got a firewire scanner at work and it came with a firewire card to install into the PC. Oh BTW, at work, I have a REALLY fast internet connection. Now, do you think I'll at least be able to see the firewire drive in Windows 98? That would be hella-cool.

Actually, Mike, I think you're on to something. After all, iPod plays files stored in a hidden folder on its hard disk. The only issue is whether Windows can read the hard disk. If Windows can, then a user can open the hidden folder and swap MP3's, WAV's, or anything else, right?

Hackers are gonna have a field day with this device.

The problem is that the FireWire drive in an iPod uses HFS/HFS+ file system and Windows uses NTFS or FAT. Not compatible.

Isn't there some software that lets Windows see mac drives & stuff though? (I forget the name)

Also I suspect firewire might become a more popular feature on PC's in future, what with Windows XP having it's own movie editing software.

Cheers!

I assume it would be possible using MacDrive, which is the program you are thinking of. I had the same thought the other day because MacDrive lets you mount HFS/HFS+ volumes, so I'm sure any pc running it would be able to use the iPod…

No, no. Those are *networking* products. MacDrive is the right product for filesystems and drives. It was amazing to me when I put an HFS+ drive (IDE) into a PC and it mounted as a regular device drive and showed all the mac files using MacDrive.

Enjoy! I'm pretty sure this will work for firewire drives if not now, in a future release.

WAIT! If it is a hidden folder, and TinkerTool (whatever version you can thnk of) can show hidden folders/files. You can add music files directly from the Finder, screw iTunes and their fun way of showing the syncing, just drag and A DROP!
