I just added an external FW harddrive (LaCie d4 300 gig). I'd like to use it for several things: back-up (own Retrospect Express), have it be a bootable drive for emergencies, and use it for achival storage. Any hints and tips as to how to do all that, or links to articles that would help?
Appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! are my choices to do the backup.

I partitioned my 200 g external so that one partition was the same size as my PB internal (named it Clone Drive), and the rest I left as a second partition (named Other Files). Then I use SuperDuper to clone to the Clone Drive, and then use the Other Files partition to store photos, iTunes, etc. Works great for me!

Just make sure that you backup anything on you're storing on your external drive that isn't on your main hdd or stored elsewhere.

Thanks to all who have responded so far. I especially like the partition idea!
How do I make is so I can boot from the external drive? (Probably in the other partition.)
Again, thanks for all your help and suggestions!
