Hi -

I just got my firedrive, and it's rad, but I have two things:

1. Installation seems to have made my apple system profiler not work and

2. Can I play audio CDs from it?

Any ideas?

No clue... try trashing the asp prefs.

There's probably a set of RCA jacks on the back of the drive. Go to radio shack, and buy a cable that has male RCA jacks on one end, and a single mini-jack on the other (like what's on cheap headphones). Plug in the RCA inputs to the drive, and the minijack end into your Mac's microphone jack. (i.e., sound in.)

Now search through your preferred CD player software and set it to the FireDrive. I don't know how it's specifically handled, as i've never used a firewire cd drive but , the apple audio cd player, it's under the options menu.

Good luck, man! And how do you like the drive? I'm jumping to a new G4, and gettind rid of my 4x4x16 APS-cased Yamaha drive and am seriously considering the Que! FireDrive. Looks like a very well made drive.

I'll try the pref trashing for the Profiler...but I'm more concerned with the audio. I can get the CD to show up, and get the track to play, but no audio to come through. It's like having a SCSI internal plugged in without the audio cable attached. Does firewire not act like that type of conduit? Does anyone think there's a fix possible?

BTW the drive seems worth it. It's fast and looks slick too.

it is the exact same as noot having the Audio cable attached, this is the case with almost all external CD players, the passthrough approach above seems feasable just set your sound control panel to have the microphone port as sound in, and check the play through speakers option. good luck

fats - Does Apple System Profile no launch at all, or does it not recognize the Que drive?

Here's my question:
There are no RCA jacks in the back of the Que Drive. Instead I have cable from my old 6100 that has the single mini-jack on both ends. I plugged one end into the head phones port on the Que Drive and the other to the External mic port on my iMac. In the Sounds control panel, everytime I select external mic as my input source, the Playthrough option is greyed out. Has anyone out there had luck in getting your Que drive to play Audio CDs?

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

I'm curious, why not just play CD's from the internal drive? I mean, with the QUE -- and other external drives -- you have to mount the CD, have a patch cable, select the sound input source -- it just seems unnecessary.

I have a QueFire, and don't even think of using it other than for burning discs.

Again, I'm just curious.

I was just curious about how firewire worked, if it could carry the audio signal. I should have prefaced my post with "hypothetically,"

thanks for the posts
