I have an Epson Stylus 800 (Mac serial/Parallel) with Epson StylusRIP and want to connect it to my G4 (OS 9.0.4) through USB.

I was considering the Keyspan Serial adapter but I tried one with an old Wacom tablet, with mixed results.

Has anyone used the Epson USB/Parallel smart cable (CAEUL0002) with the Stylus 800 and StylusRIP?

Thanks in advance!

I had the USB->Parallel cable and it worked flawlessly (until my printer broke, that is.) I would definately use this, but it doesn't have to be brand name cable. Any old USB to Parallel cable will work.

Yes, you can use pretty much any cable (mine is a HP one I picked up cheap & it works fine) and download the drivers from Epson's website. No sign of them doing OSX drivers for this arrangement yet, though.

Cheers!

Yep, I had one for a while and it's still being used by a friend. Epson drivers are a bit old - make sure to install Epson Stylus Update after installing SC800 USB drivers.

No direct experience with Stylus RIP - and I don't ever expect to see USB to parallel adaptors working in X.

I've used the USB-Parallel adaptor for while. It works greatin OS 9, but isn't yet compatible with OS X. Who knows if that will ever happen...

Cheers, guys!

Any of you used StylusRIP software with the cable?

I have it from a few years ago - it connects thru the serial port. Just wondering if the Epson cable provides a solution for this or whether I'll have to upgrade the StylusRIP software.

Thanks,

Been in touch with Epson, it looks like I've got two choices. Get the Keyspan adapter or buy the cable and a new copy of StylusRIP (£116). Damn!

Thanks for yer time, guys...
