I want to upgrade a machine to have an internal DVD-R/RW dual layer drive - does anyone have any recommendations on Mac friendly drives (I've heard that some won't write/burn from the Finder)?

Or, what drives are in current Macs, and where can I buy one?

I have no idea what the current macs are using. I do know that Pioneer drives were used on previous macs with superdrives. New Egg has a Pioneer 16x dual layer burner for $32.

Thanks, I was thinking that the Superdrives in Mac desktops were Panasonic, like the PowerBooks.

xlr8yourmac has a searchable database of user feedback on third party DVD (and other) drives, just found it here:

I have the aforementioned Pioneer DVR-111D working flawless as internal burner for a MDD G4 Power Mac.
