Macally iKey USB problems

I suspect I'll have to wait until the OS 9.x update comes out to solve my problem, but am hoping someone out there might have an idea.

SYSTEM: iMac (Rev A, bondi) running OS 9. USB Zip 100 and HP 1100 LaserJet connected via PowerPrint USB to paralell adapter.

Under the above configuration, everything was working fine for more than a month. I bought a Macally iKey USB keyboard which seemed to pose no problem for about two weeks. Suddenly I started getting USB error messages at startup (no drivers found for USB device "unknown"). In spite of the error message, everything worked fine. Soon I began to freeze at startup which was resolved by unplugging the iKey keyboard and reconnecting.

Another week goes by and my USB Zip can't mount disks, but now the keyboard is fine. After reinstalling the latest Iomegaware (1.1.3?) and having no success, I decided OS 9 wasn't worth it and downgraded to OS 8.6 (clean install).

The Zip came back to life, but now the iKey keyboard is still unrecognized at startup. Unplugging and re-connecting loads the driver and off I go. The Apple System Profiler sees everything fine. I get the same problem switching back to the Apple-built USB keyboard that came with the iMac.

Something somewhere is messed up good. When the OS 9 update comes out, I suspect I'll wipe the drive and start fresh, but would appreciate any thoughts out there.

Thanks,

The iKey's are pretty cheap and I've tossed about four in the trash ($49 is less than my time is worth). THey have acknowledged problems, and the latest ones seem to be behaving better. Return it or get something else.
Make sure you plug it into the Mac and not a hub. Try switching ports.
