I have seen these new USB hardrives and thinking of getting one.
Is there anyway to share the drive over the usb connection(ie two macs or pcs for that matter connected to the USB chain)? And if so, is there any problem with mice or keyboards messing with each other. And is there anyway to limit access to the harddrive, or would anyone who connected to the chain be able to mount the drive?

There is no way to share the drive by attaching it to two computers. This may, in fact, ruin the computers and the drive. A better idea would be to use file sharing to share the information on the drive. If you do not already have a network connection, you can run an Ethernet crossover cable between the machines. You can share FireWire hard drives using the bus, unlike USB.

I agree with Simon. You can share a USB drive if you have the computers connected with ethernet.

YES YOU CAN!!!

If you have a USB KVM switch (That's keyboard Video Mouse and USB Peripheral) you can attach the drive to the KVM switch and then toggle between computers, the cool thing is that you then only need one keyboard, mouse etc.

A company called ADDER make a Bondi and Clear colored one.

You must unmount the drive before switching though (just drag the desktop icon to the trash).
