I have been using a minidisc recorder to record live performances of local bands and I would like to get these recordings onto my Mac so I can burn cds as a service to them.

Is there a good way to get minidisc audio files from my reorder to my powerbook? Ideally I would like to be able to mount the minidisc on my mac and copy the files to my hard drive.

Next best would be any other digital to digital transfer solution that is easy and inexpensive.

Seems easy enough, right?

I don't think you can mount a minidisc on your mac. Now I don't know much about audio editing, but I believe all you need is a cable to connect your minidisc player to your mac and a piece of software(you can probably get a nice freeware/shareware application) to record from the player. You just set your sound input to Sound In and press Play on your minidisc player and click record on your software package.

Maybe read about a hero of mine's adventures in computer sound editing: http://www.artbabe.com/radio/diary_o...a_wannabe.html

Also, here's a page that tells you how to transfer mp3's to MD recorder. It should work in reverse for your purposes. http://MacOSPage.MadBee.com/archives...D/mp3toMD.html

Also, that these suggestions are for analog, real-time recording.

I assume that your MiniDisc machine must have a digital output of some kind or another? So you would be wise to use it so as to limit adding any additional noise to your final recordings. Try looking at the Roland ED UA-30. This has both types of digital inputs and outputs, plus various analogue in's and outs too. It connects to your Mac via USB. But your Mac will also need to be running the latest Mac OS 9.0.4 for the device to work.

It's not the cheapest solution, but it's not the most costly either. Yet it should enable you to get top notch results.
