I want to buy a CD-RW for my iMac DV. Which one is better?
Should I buy a firewire instead of USB?

I would suggest FireWire every time. It is more expensive, but much faster and more reliable. USB burners top out at 4x, but don't burn reliably above 2x. This is because USB is so slow that it can't keep up with the data rates the drive needs at 4x so you get an error. FireWire drives can get up to 12x and don't have speed issues associated with USB drives. If you're looking for a good drive, go with the Sony Spressa drives.

My friend suggests me to buy a FreeCom CD-RW with 8x4x32. It is a Firewire external CD-RW, it costs HK$2850.
Does anyone use it before?

My suggestion is the Yamaha firewire burners - last time I checked (couple months ago) they had the 8424 available in FireWire.
I have an 8424 SCSI and it is AWESOME!

I have to 2nd the Sony Spressa recommendation. Despite the comment about it not supporting 80 minute CD's, I still think it's a nice system. There are more things to consider than 6 extra minutes of record time, particularly when you may rarely run into that limit.
One thing that Sony needs to do is dump or fix the Discribe software that comes with it. I was ready to return the system until I removed Discribe and replaced it with Toast. Now I'm much happier with it.

Support for 80 min CD is very important for some CD-Audio and VCD (or Divx files). I have an iBook (without DVD) and i like to watch vcd movie on my iBook!!! But without support for 80 minutes, i can't burn my VCD.
Or if you want to do a compilation of Audio files or MP3...the six minutes do the difference...
Don't waste your money wiht Sony!!!

iBuzz -
I'm not trying to be antagonistic, just curious.
I just caught your comments about your current Sony USB-based drive on the Sony CRX100E thread. Are you irritated because you just ran into the 80 minute limit (which is really a 78.5 minute limit) or is there some other reason that you don't like your drive?

OK
Its "beige"!!!
Its BIG!!!
He come with poor software!!!
But the drive run very well with Toast 4.1 and i can live with a big ugly beige box...(with blueberry foot!!!)
But i can't burn 80 min audio CD and Divx/VCD...All CD-RW drive support 80 minutes exept SONY...and i didn't know that when i buy the drive, because no body know that and try to find this information on SONY web site...
When i buy this drive, I knew about the color, the size and the sofware...but i didn't know about the support for 80 min. CD and its very important to know before to buy this drive...
