Does anyone have any ideas or experience with using a HP scanjet 5200cxi with a mac? Since the 5200cxi has a USB port, it's just a matter of finding the right driver. There aren't any listed on HP's website for the particular scanner. Perhaps there are third-party drivers or other HP scanner drivers that would also work here. Perhaps the new 5300c drivers ... any suggestions?

If it's not listed as mac- compatible, you're outa luck. The fact that it's USB doesn't matter if there's no driver, and there isn't. There are only one or two HP scanners with mac drivers, and this isn't one of them.

I wouldn't say it was as bad as only having one or two with Mac drivers out there. I've owned two in the last couple of years. And as I recall, there were about 6 or 7 to choose from. I've got an outstanding HP scanner, a model 5370C. It has an adapter for slides, optional page feeder, great resolution and among the best Mac software for scanning I've ever used. Well, Ok...I've only used Canon, Epson and Umax. And Umax was absolutely maddening to "use".

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I went over to the HP site. They list 7 scanners on their website. There are 2 entry level, 4 mid level and 1 high end scanners. Only the 2 entry level units are Windows exclusive. The other 5 will work with a Mac.

I don't know if this is a universal work-around, but see if vuescan will work. www.hamrick.com.
