Umm... just had a very scary thought...

If the bad installer is on the shipping iPods... anyone with an iPod released before Apple realized the probelm will end up losing data..

That = PR NIGHTMARE

Can anyone confirm that the iTunes software shipped in the iPod is clean?

Actually this is a good point. Though the iPod hasn't yet shipped, this may delay the release. All depends on if the installation CD has gone to duplication already. If it had with the bad installer then they will have to toss them all and make new ones.

Hopefully they hadn't started packing the bad CDs into boxes yet.

So was the Friday evening release of iTunes 2 also the GM day for the iPod CD? If so, probably not too much damage to shipping times was done.

Since we haven't heard of a dealer getting the preview iPods having a problem, maybe their installer was different (or maybe just none of them had volume names that began with a space?)

Good question.. When I was at the apple store yesterday, I asked to see the firewire disk mode. Well, all the guy did was plug in the firewire cable, the iPod screen turns into an Apple Logo, then the firewire logo, and after a few seconds, it automatically shows up on the screen as a firewire disk with the iPod icon. He opened up the drive and iTunes folders are already on the disk. Two folders, one with OS X and the other w/the OS 9 version. Of course, this was before I knew about the prob with the installers so I didn't check if it were just drag and drop folders inside or actual installers.
