My folks have an 8500 (Running 8.6) with a Laserwriter hooked up to it via localtalk.

They also have a PC. They would like to be able to share files and print from the Laserwriter.

I haven't started the setup yet..I am mostly looking for advice..and if I am missing anything..

So far, I have PC MACLAN installed on the PC, and I have downloaded the Localtalk/laserwriter bridge.

I have the proper ethernet cabling from each machine.

All the proper file sharing control panels are setup on the Mac.

Anything else I should know? Do I need anything else? Has anyone encountered many problems with a similar setup?

As there are some Apple LaserWriter models with a PC-style parallel connector besides the LocalTalk one, let us know which type of LaserWriter it is so that it will be easier to give you some advice.

The LaserWriter IINT does have a serial (DB-25) RS-232/RS-422 port that can be used with PC's. However, it is tricky getting anything to print out using any newer PC OS's (Win95/98, etc) because it was origionally designed with dos drivers in mind (the IINT was introduced in '88). I had a IINT that I could print out simple text files from my Linux box/dos computer, but you also run into problems with the IINT's amout of built in memory (2MB).

You might try looking for info in the Apple TIL files, and I know Adobe has some PC drivers avilable on it's web site for Apple Postscript printers compatable with PC's.
