After almost 2 years of having my cell phone, it's finally time for a new one. I'm under the family plan with Verizon, so I would like to stick with them and the family plan. New phone however would be nice.

Amidst of all of the Razr's out there, it seems that Verizon has disabled it's bluetooth capabilities with PC's (not even sure if it would be compatible with Mac's). I'm looking for a phone that has bluetooth capabilities that WILL work with my Powerbook. Speaker phone would also be nice and a nice, loud ring tone.

Any suggestions? Help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You can use the bluetooth to sync your calendar, contacts, etc. using iSync (assuming your phone is supported by Apple), just not for file transfer without doing seem edits. For info on that, go to howardforums.com and/or the yahoo group maccellphone. All will give great info on how to do file transfers, etc. It CAN be done, but takes some hacking.

No, Verizon has removed any possibility of using their phone for Bluetooth file transfers with the current RAZR V3m, unless you opt to flash the phone with the firmware from another provider's V3c. You can enable USB transfers of images, though.
It is, however, possible to use iSync via Bluetooth without any phone modification.

Yes, but the current ones do not have that option, and the later V3c's had the file transfer (OBEX) capability removed.

There's a new firmware that you can get from VZW that'll let you use more of the Blue Tooth capabilities. Check w/ your local neighborhood VZW store.

Do you know if the firmware is only for one kind of phone or for all/many phones? I have an E815 that I would love to be able to use for file transfers, etc. Think there is a firmware update for that?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info guys.

Josh, I hope what you said is true, because blue tooth is something I'm really looking forward too.

The main reason for it is to sync with iCal and get some of my own ring tones in there without having to buy them from Verizon, or whoever the provider is for ring tones.

Just looked through some Verizon phones and the Motorola Q is looking really good at this point. Does anyone know if it will sync properly with my Powerbook? The phone's OS is based on Windows, so I'm not sure if this will pose any issues. Does anyone use this phone and sync with their Mac? How is it?

There's no new firmware for the V3m, which is the only currently sold RAZR by Verizon. It will iSync perfectly well as-is over Bluetooth but you cannot transfer ringtones that way. There are other means around that. Refer to howardforums.com for more information there.

You'll need to buy Missing Sync to get it to sync w/ the Mac but their site says the Q is supported.

Thanks for the info Chris. Guess I need to do a little bit more research on the Q.
