This last weekend, I decided to purchase a new printer. I chose the Epson ColorStylus 900, and have tested it, and the print out wuality is FABULUS! But, I did spend almost 2 hours attempting to get Desktop Printing working with it, and came out epty handed. I then proceded to this forum, and sadly I have seen A LOT of posts about Epson's drivers and poor support. I have decided to call them, and complain about it ALL, and mention this forum, and the others I have been to (through links on this one). Maybe if many of us do the same, it is possable that the problem will be remideed more quickly. It is really sad that they market there printers toward the mac community, yet lack adiquate drivers that are BARELY functional. This needs to be fixed before any more un-expecting consumers go out and spend there money on Epson Hardware.

hello cosomotic -
(my experience only but...)
i recently bought a stylus 1270 - it arrived when they said it would and worked perfectly - aside from the light cyan cartridge refusing to print.
i phoned their tech support and was told to run the clean nozzle routine a dozen times. i tried this with no luck.
then - to their eternal credit - when i called back i was told that they would deliver a new printer and pick up the old one the next day. which they did. at the time they said they would.
so - in my experience, dealing with epson's customer support has been a great experience. in ten years of coping with tech support, i've never been served this well.
(on top of that - i've had no problems with their drivers - touch wood!0
as i say - this is only my experience - but when you get treated well, i guess its worth shouting about...
cheers!

Hang in there. You bought a great printer which will do what you need it to do for a long time. My experience with my Epson Photo 750 has been great. Once, the driver became corrupted, and their email support was great. The biggest problem with Epsons is unreasonably expensive fugitive ink. Check out aftermarket suppliers for a better deal. Yes, they aren't all equally good, but here are 2 good ones: <http://www.ink4art.com> and <http://www.inkjetdiscounts.com> . Good luck!

They should at least support desktop printing. Well, After I compalin to there costomer service, I am returning it for a Lexmark Z52. Its a great printer, I agree. But the support is laking. When I called, they transfered me to Costomer support, then to a senior rep. He SPKE EBONICS!!!! Thats horable. And he was almost telling me that epson was bad. Theu dont support anything! well, I hope lexmark is better.

The Z52 is a great printer. It is larger than an Epson SC740, but it appears to be constructed better. The unusual thing is that the power supply is external and quite large, but it is like a PowerBook adapter where the brick sits between the wire that attaches to the printer and the wire that plugs in to the wall.
The only other complaint i have is that the software may lack a few features compared to the Epson drivers, but it adds things like the use of Desktop Printing. The driver also looks like a LaserWriter driver so you may have to select several sections to get all your features set when you need to change from the default. The software is stable and the hardware is second to none. It is fast, quiet and prints beautifully.
