I was wondering if I could buy a PC Voodoo 2 or 3 Video Card (PCI) and plug it and make it work in my Mac ?? If yes, what brand of PC Video Card would you recommand for a Mac ?

You certainly can buy either a PC Voodoo 3 2000 or 3000 to use on the Mac. Both of them are made by 3dfx. The current drivers for them are currently beta 11 and the drivers package include a little program and Macintosh BIOS files so that you can change the BIOS of the cards to make them work on the Mac.

Download the drivers here: http://www.3dfxgamers.com/view.asp?IOID=30

Seagull, thanks for your input, it answered this question for me too! I purchased a Voodoo card this past weekend, downloaded the drivers you referred to - and it's great!
Now for my question - Since I installed it my computer handles video much better, but every once in a while (maybe 4-5 times a day) the monitor appears turns of for a second then back on. I hear a click when it happens. I don't loose any of my work - the computer continues to function, but the monitor goes black for that second. Do you, or anyone out there have this problem with the Voodoo 3-2000 card on the Mac?

Is this when you switch applications? When your monitor is changing resolutions---often necceessary when starting a game, or leaving a game---it goes black and clicks.

No - I am sometimes not at the computer, and sometimes I am in the middle to working on a file (Illustrator, Photoshop...) There is no rhyme or reason to it.

Hi,

How old is your monitor? Mine is a Apple 15 inch multiscan. Its starting to do the same thing, even though its still plugged into my PowerMac 6100 and has no fancy video card.

Could it be that some moisture got into the monitor and is shorting out one of the high voltage capacitors? Turn off your lights so that your in a dark room when this happens. Do you see a spark inside the monitor?
