are internal floppy drives (IDE) cross-platform? my drive is broken and i want to put a new one in. Can i run down to Fry's and pick up an IBM for 15 bucks and put it in with no problems? otherwise, how can i get an internal floppy for the mac? thanks..

since when are floppy drives IDE? they have them tiny connectors and doesn't even require seperate power if I recall correctly. I don't see why any random floppy drive wouldn't work on a Mac, though I haven't tried it personally...If it doesn't work, you can always return it. Keep in mind that PC floppy drives have this annoying face-plate thingy that has that eject button...Personally, I'd just find an old Mac and rip out the floppy drive from that...as long as its a High Density drive...
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...
A PC floppy definitely will *not* work on a Mac. PC and Mac floppies have different interfaces (neither of which is IDE) and the actual floppy hardware is different too. Mac floppies are software programmable, which is why they can also read PC disks. PC floppies aren't programmable and can only do what their ROM allows.
