I'm running a B/W G3/400 with 1152x870 resolution on a Studio Display 17 and my Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer (with the latest driver, v1.1) seems to lose tracking if I rapidly move the mouse from one side of the screen to the other. I have the same kind of mouse at home on a G4/450 with the same resolution and there's no problem... I realize the speed of the computer doesn't have anything to do with it... I'm just wondering if I've got a defective mouse here or if anyone else has experienced this problem.

loss of tracking has always been a problem with the optical mouse, which is why it doesn't really work for gaming.
As for the specifics of your problem, I've never used those things before, so I can only provide a theory for people to break down...I think the difference lies in that G4s use USB1.2 while G3s use USB1.1 or 1.0... Otherwise, bring in your mouse from home and try it out, see what happens...

G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

I went home last night and tested my own mouse at home and got nearly the same results... the tracking was somewhat better at higher-speed mouse movements (possibly because of the newer version of USB on the G4)... I use that mouse for Unreal Tournament and Starcraft and don't have any problems with it... however I was able to somewhat rectify the problem by choosing "IntelliMouse tracking speed" and speeding the mouse up a bit in its control panel. No biggie, I only do prepress stuff at work, so I won't be doing a whole lot of rapid mousing
Thanks for the advice,
