I'd like to replace my pro mouse with a 3-5 button, scroll wheel, optical (concidering cordless) mouse.

Cordless option sounds great, except i've heard they don't track as well as one with a cord. I am very impressed with how the pro mouse tracks and do not care to give that up. Does anyone care to comment?

How well do the scroll wheels work? Does anyone know which mice will work under os X?

What about the Watcom tablet? How's the mouse tracking? I saw one bundled with Photoshop LE for $149cdn. If I'm going to pay $50 -$100 for a mouse maybe I should just chip in the extra cash.

I've tried to check at local stores but none of the retailers around here seem to think Mac users exist and the ones that do have their own issues. (patiently awaiting "Apple Vancouver")
thanks

As much as I HATE to admit it, the best mice out there are the optical ones made by MicroSoft. I have a 5 button intellimouse and it works PERFECTLY and looks cool.

In OS X the right click and scroll wheel work perfectly, but until the driver (or USB Overdrive) is written for OS X the other buttons are but ornaments.

I have to say that bar none, the best mouse I've ever owned is the Logitech optical. Simply, optical, with a cord. I've found that it even tracks better than the Apple pro mouse. Two buttons and a scroll wheel and very ergonomic.

I'd say go for that one. [/LIST]

I'm in total accord with smac... Intellimouse Explorer. When all 5 buttons and the scroll wheel work(OS 9.2), it makes me wonder why I put up with a single button all these years. Scroll wheel is one to ten lines per clik. I hate 1-button mice.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm still waiting to hear from the Watcom guy. Sounds like all three major manufacturers above do quite well with Macs. Great! Would anybody like to disagree with anything? Anybody using a Cordless mouse?

I agree with Fredo - get the Kensington! I'm using the Mouse-in-a-Box Optical Pro, and it is great! Plus Kensington is right on top of things as far as getting out driver updates for OS X. You will have effectively 7 buttons, five counting the scroll-wheel click, and 2 chording (clicking 2 buttons simultaneously). You can program them with a whole range of options.
I have gotten terribly lazy as a result of using my Kensington mouse. I find myself resenting having to double-click my M$ 2-button-&-scrollwheel mouse at work.

Speaking of Kensington, anyone seen the new Pocket Mouse Pro? I'm looking for a mouse to go with my «to be delivered» TiBook 550...
