I'm considering to buy iomega zip usb-powered for using with my ibook dual usb. Anyway there're some questions still left in my mind:

1. Does it have any effect on battery life or power consumption both in long and short terms?
2. Does it hinder an ibook's performance as it draws a power directly from usb port in the unit?
3. I have an usb mouse connected, would there be a conflict with the mouse?

Hope this isn't annoying you if they were asked for a million times. Thank you very much in advance for every answer.

I have the FireWire Zip 250 myself. It draws 5.0 volts and 1.0 amp. The USB only supplys 2.0 volts. My bus powered firewire drive really doesn't pull the battery down much that I can tell. We use it on both a Pismo and an iBook. So, the USB should be even better at battery management. I've used a mouse with my Pismo and never had any problems with the Zip drive.

I believe that each USB port has its own bandwidth. So if you have them plugged into seperate ports it will not have any effect.
