After a few up dates and some new peripherals my quickcam is no longer working. I tried reinstalling the software that did not work. I tried disabling the driver for the sony cdrw I just installed and that did not work. I tried hooking up the quickcam directly to the usb port and not though the hub that did not work. I really don't wish to reinstall everything to see exactly were the conflict is. But it seems as though I just might have to do that because my new iproraid-tv is not working well eather. Away does anyone have any better ideas? The error I am getting is the quickcam can't befound or something close to that.

Do you have any versions of CU-SeeMe on there? If so remove them and be sure to use the uninstaller as there is a wbsp or somesuch extension that belongs to CU that is the problem. Use iVisit instead.

The latest version of the QuickCam software in 2.1.2 which was undated in August, 1998. V2.1.2 is compatible with MacOS 8.6 and earlier but it is not compatible with MacOS 9.

I have emailed Logitech (the "new" owners of QuickCam) about this lack of compatibility. From Logitech's response, and based on other postings on various Mac web sites, I can only conclude that Lgoitech has neither the desire not the intent of making the QuickCam, or any other product produced by Logitech, Mac-compatible. This conclusion is supported by a visit to Logitech's web site. Only the product lines they purchased from Connectix have any Mac-compatibility, albeit not with MacOS 9.

To use your QuickCam on your Mac system your choices are to go back to an earlier version of the MacOS or to find some third party software that will drive the QuickCam. As the first option is likely unacceptable and the second is unlikely, I recommend the following. Write off your QuickCam and invest in a similar camera from a vendor who will maintain their Mac-compatible software. Logitech is not that vendor.

Frank Bendrick

There is an extension called Nine 11 that patches the LMGetFCBSPtr that MacOS 9 installs to display an alert with three choices instead of halting the application immediately.

It's at http://www.akua.com/Software/Nine11/index.html

Run it at your own risk. I'm running it on a beige G3 w/ OS 9, and so far, so good. My QC continues to work.

Actually, 2.1.3 QuickCam USB software works fine with OS9, but not with CU-SeeMe of either Cornell or White Pine flavors.

Have you tried trashing the preferences files for the QuickCam? I found that Quickmovie was crashing a lot after I updated to OS 9 but that this helped.

I am confused...

I run an 8500/120, a color usb quickcam through a Macally card, and CUSeeMe... all with OS 9. Most of the time, the cam is a web cam running CoolCam. But I have used CUSeeMe with this box, and there are no more problems than I have on my PB 266 running CuSeeMe... CuSeeME is a piece of crap, regardless of machine. But when it works, it is nice.

Get 2.1.3 (I am not sure where) Turn off the CuSeeMe Listener, and expect CuSeeMe to crash 50% of the time.

(although, my webcam machine has issues if I run the cam for over 4-5 days straight... perhaps this is the same problem? I have not gotten around to isolating the problem)

2.1.3 came on the CD and if you want it I'll send it to you as an attachment. Again, use iVisit instead of CU.

Question? Is there any other way to get the video from QuickCam Pro USB *without* using the supplied software.

I'm using v2.1.3 and I get "Camera not found" when I increase screen size in QuikPICT from half to full. Plus QuikMoive doesn't display video at any size! Same message.

I try'd returning it but MacZone won't take it back nor will Logitech.

Apple Video Player 1.7.2 works fine and comes w 8xx CD's. Camera not found usually goes away with a restart and not using any other digitizers immediately before, like any TV cards or other conference software. You can get past this.I have 3 computers all using this set of QuickCam and it's own software, as well as Video Player, with no problems, but honestly, the Pismo with QuickCam is nearly flawless in audio(built in or PlainTalk mics) and video.

When I mentioned the Nine11 extension, I should have clarified that I have a SERIAL QuickCam. I haven't tried it, but I'm suspicious if the 2.1.3 USB software will work with the serial camera.

I will give it a try; maybe then I can do away with Nine11....

Good point. All my comments refer to the QuickCam Pro USB. I do believe the serial issue is dead, but I am not positive.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered my problem and if they know of any solution besides forgetting about using QuickCam and buying some other product.

I have an original QuickCam greyscale (serial). I've used it on serial capable desktop Macs including a Powerbase, and it works fine with the QuickCam v2.1.2 software and other Webcam software such as Oculus. It works fine on the desktop units even running MacOS 9.0.4. My problem is that I try to run it on a Powerbook 1400c, MacOS 9.0.4. The QuickCam run fine for about 10 minutes and then for no apparent reason, the image starts to break up and produces all sorts of noise and artifacts. It looks very artisitic, but for my needs, I need a clean image. I have even tried using the Nine11 extension, but again the same image break up appears shortly after starting ANY application that uses the QuickCam as an input. HELP! I have tried minimal extension sets, uninstalls and reinstalls, pref trashing, the works, even installing v2.1.3 but the same thing happens. At first I thought the QuickCam was damaged, but like I said, it works fine on a serial capable desktop Mac, even running OS 9.0.4. Any clues would be so appreciated. Thanx

I just bought a Quickcam Pro USB from Computer Geeks...I connected it and have been working for the past few hours trying to get the things working, so far, with no results. I haven't gotten so much as a picture out of the thing!! Was there two versions of the Quickcam Pro USB that were released? maybe one mac compatable and one not? the web site mentions one with a beige focus ring and another with a dark focus ring. I have the later of the two..anyone else have the same one? Any sugestions on how to get the camera working? I would REALLLY apprieciate ANY help anyone can give. I have downloaded the quickcam software version 2.1.3 and installed it, tried CuSeeMe and the apple video player...I can't get anything to recognize that the camera is there. Mac OS 8.5.1 says that it can not find a driver for "the connected USB device" do I need OS 9?? PLAESE help!!
