Does anyone know if any companies are planning to come out with firewire capable photo scanners in the near future? like the Nikon SuperCool Scan or others?

If not, does anyone have an idea of how effective a SCSI scanner would work through a SCSI-USB adaptor? would it be super slow?

Thanks,
hwl

I did see an ad (or an announcement) for a firewire/usb(!) connected flatbed scanner the other day. Can't remember where I saw it but I'll try to find it.

Yes, SCSI via USB is VERY slow, there also no guarentee that your SCSI scanner drivers will still work. Definitely a try before you buy situation.

UMAX has a dedicated FireWire scanner, but it's geared towards the high-end and as a result carries a high-end price tag.

You know, every month I look for a firewire scanner and never find anything. I didn't go to CES this year. So I missed my chance to ask that very question. It took a while to get any decent scanner in USB, it's just a matter of time before the firewire models come out-at least that's what I keep telling myself.

The UMAX PowerLook 1100 sounds ok, only 1200 dpi but it has an optical density of 3.4D, so pretty good for a flatbed (it might come with the transparency adapter.) I didn't price it, but it is probably close the PowerLook III which goes for about $1100. I decided to settle for an epson 1200U (1200 dpi, 3.0D) with a tranparency adapter until something better comes along. I get pretty good results, so I can't complain.
