Hi again. I purchased ViaVoice, as I was planning, and I love it. The only problem is the microphone. It worked the first time I plugged it in, and I used it for about an hour. That was yesterday. I then tried to use it this morning and it didn't work. A loud buzzing/humming was coming out of the speaker. I eventually figured out that if I touched the metal that was near the audio input on the back of my computer, the sound would greatly decrease. This, however, would not solve the problem, since I would have to sit there and touch the back of the computer everytime I want to dictate. Well even if that had been a feasible way of fixing the problem, it didn't reduce the noise enough. I ran the "audio set up assistant" and, without touching, the blue bar was as high as it could go for background noise. While touching, it only went up a quarter of the way, but apparently that was still too much since the program reported that there was too much background noise. There must be something wrong with the mic, or maybe it's incompatible with my system. For now I am using the Apple plain talk mic which serves the purpose, but I would like to be able to use the ViaVoice one. I have a beige G3 266, running OS9 and plenty of RAM. Any help would be appreciated.

I seem to be having the same problem, and my sound input level is lower than it should be. The microphone worked a few days ago, but it doesn't anymore. I have a G4/450 with 256MB of RAM and OS9. Thanks in advance for any help.

There is an upgrade you can download that takes care of the noise problem. I found it at versiontracker.com. good luck

I found that the update only worked for one session on my Wallstreet 266. Totally inexplicable. Like the other participants, my Apple mic works fine.
