I have a 7600 and not going to put a Firewire/USB card in it. There must be good CD-RWs left out there. What are the model numbers please and best Toast? Thank you

Been using a Yamaha cdr 400 on a 7100 at work for two years(minor problems) Last fall got the Yamaha 6416 for my 7300 at home and it works great on it. Just beware of the Kodak discs. They suck. The yamaha will only burn at 2x just hold one up to the light and you'll see why, It's opaque! It''l burn any other brand down to generics.
I think any of the other scsi burners will work as well. But this is my opinion.
Have fun choosing one!

I just got a Yamaha 8424 (8x write, 4x rewrite, 24x read) and love it to death. It is a SCSI 3 device, but hooks up fine to standard (5MB/sec) SCSI interfaces.

What version of toast are you using?

I have been using the Yamaha 6416 SCSI (toast 3.5.7) on a G4/500 MACOS 9. SCSI card is the standard Adaptec BTO option. I have not found a CDR/ CDRW it didn't like (haven't tried Kodak though). After dozens of burns on various generics I have not made a single coaster. Be sure to bump up the buffer to a generous setting. I had underruns in the simulation modes with the default option.

Enjoy..

I just got the same model (CDRW8424SX) and it has been working great. It came with Toast 4.0.1.1, although I couldn't get Toast to recognize it without this file (which wasn't on the CD) http://www.yamahayst.com/Mac8424/YamahaCRW8424.sit

Hope that helps.

I've been using a Smart&Friendly 6x4x24 SCSI (needs a Mac-compatible SCSI card if you have a modern Mac) with great success!

I have a B&W G3, so I had to add an Adaptec 2906 card (~$45 at my local CompUSA - much cheaper by mail-order if you don't mind waiting).

Comes with everything else.
