Got an 17" Apple Studio Display (CRT) on an orginal G4 350 (AGP). Came as a package. The moniter works fine for awhile, but after 30 odd mins, it begins to blink/flicker, and the power button flashes from Green to Red & back over and over. This renders the moniter un-useable. Unplugging the power solves the problem temp, but comes back after awhile.... Checked the connection to the moniter card and it's nice and snug.
Is this moniter shot? It's not _that_ old.... It's under normal use, on during the day, off all night.
Thanks.

This is an all-but-official problem with the 17" CRT Apple Studio Displays, both the graphite ones and the blue and white ones before it. I know because my blue and white 17" CRT has this same problem.

What's happening is that there is a part inside that is fried, but it doesn't show it's ugly head until the monitor heats up. I found that keeping the room at 70 degrees kept the monitor working. Also, in the late winter/early spring months it would get very dry in the room and no matter what the tempature was, the monitor would go into it's flicker/flashing frenzy. a $10 Vicks Vaporizor helped with the dryness, hense keeping the monitor working.

Forget having it fixed; it'll cost you more than the monitor did to fix it, because there are two boards in that monitor and they both need to be replaced, which costs more than $500. You can try calling Apple and demand they get it fixed (they certainly know about it, and don't let them say they don't; it's just not "official"), but I would recommend just buying a new monitor.

I had a similar problem with one of my graphite 17" monitors, but the button didn't flicker. I called Apple and they sent me a box to have it shipped to their repair shop. Had to do that twice before the problem went away. If you have the protection plan use it. Didn't cost me a cent. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
