So I have a iBook and bought a GriffinTech iMic. The goal is to record audio, but I have only managed to get it to work on one recording. Countless times of switching between hubs and checking the sound control panel have been futile.

I have a professional microphone which works fine with my other Macs that have a built-in audio port. But the iBook is my only laptop and I need to be able to record audio away from my desk.

I have messed with the gain adjustment in the Sound control panel, tried pluigging the iMic directly into the iBook as well as a powered hub. I have set the input on the iMic to microphone level.

Any suggestions? Right now I've just recording with the sound control panel for testing this out (though other applications have not worked either.)

I also have the iMic and a consistent amount of noise on input from various audio sources. Griffin suggested a powered hub, then mentioned that Belkin (which I had bought) was not compliant with USB audio standards (which I have been unable to find). The Griffin staff recommended iogear powered hubs and I am thinking about it.

On an iBook thread here I saw a similar problem. It seems to be helped by turning off the AirPort card. HTH, Jim
