I was thinking about purcashing the 15 Studio Display to replace my Sony 17 inch CRT. I really cant afford the 17 inch LCD ..so i am wondering from the owners who use this display how do you like it? In terms of the 1024x768 resolution running OS X primarly? Do you feel that its too small of a setting for OS X? Iam not a graphic designer who needs a CRT..im set on the LCD just want to know if the screen resolution is good enough for X..considering im running at 1152x868 on my display right now and OS X seems to want the hightest resolution possible..thanks

I looked at the 15" LCD and found that the 1024x768 was just too small a resolution for my taste. So I ended up getting a digital 17" LCD (not Apple's) that runs at 1280x1024 and am quite happy with it. But its true what you said. It seems OS X would be happy running at 1600x1200...but maybe this is just all those years of conditioning from using a Mac and expecting fonts and icons all to be the same relative size.

So, if you can get by with 1024x768 on your CRT then by all means go for it on the LCD. Otherwise save up your money and get a larger LCD when you can.

I also have been looking at the 15" LCD display.
I looked at it beside a new iBook and I must say it looked awesome. Personally, the 12" screen is too small for my eyes even with the high resolution.

I found it quite acceptable for normal browsing (I have a 17" CRT running at 1024 x 768).

Yeah, 1280 x 1024 is nicer for OSX but think of how much you would be saving. Unless you really need the real estate, go for the 15". By the way, can't you resize the icons and dock on OSX anyways?

I have a 15" on my cube. It's Beutiful! The resolutioin isn't anything special but it's high enough. THis screen is very bright and has great color quality, and by the way the pixel response is blazing, fast enough for games! Iplay quake 3 on it all the time! I also own a cinema display on my dp 533 and I think the pixel response is faster in the 15" I know the 15" is brighter. By the way I run osx!

Quite an interesting little story on my side in that I moved from a sony flatscreen 21", to the Apple LCD 15", to the 12.1" on the iBook.

IMHO, 1024 x 768 is fine for X, it's even good on my 800 x 600 iBook! By utilising X's cutom icon sizes, hiding the dock, and all the other space saving features, it's perfect, and so I can't really see reason for complaint!

It's a really nice monitor, and I have to admit that it's one of the best display's I've ever had.

I have had the 15" ADC TFT for almost 10 months now with my Cube, most of those months running OS X. I now run X 99% of the time, and love it. I don't find the resolution too small, as I have all my icons set to the 32x32 pixel OS 9 size (including the Dock icons). This gives me plenty of room to navigate. The display is beautiful and bright -- probably THE best flat panel I have ever seen in terms of quality. Even c|net rated it as slightly higher quality than the Cinema, and their highest quality LCD reviewed! So basically, get it, you won't regret it!

One thing that has slowed my decision on purchasing the 15" display is cost. I know it has come down in price, however it is still over $300 more than a Samsung or NEC.

Obviously, the Apple brand, quality and design is much better, but it goes for $929 Cdn. vs $599 Cdn. for the competitive brands.

Will Apple further reduce these costs at MWNY? That's what I'm waiting for.
