I need a good drive mostly for video editing. Ive looked at the maxtor 3000dv, the EZQuest Cobra and the Que M3 but its not out yet. Doea anyone know of a good drive thats reliable? I need it to be 60gb or above and it has to be 7200RPMS. Thanks

Build yer own: cheapest and fastest thing to do.

There's been some discussion about the IDE-to-firewire bridge. Take a look at this article: http://www.lowendmac.com/usb/oxford.html and also do a search of this forum "oxford 911" -- which is a newer, faster bridge.

Several manufacturers make HD enclosures with this bridge. You can then put whatever drive you want in it. I bought an enclosure from Granite Digital and put an IBM mechanism in it. Great performance, and cheaper than something pre-packaged.

I've had the EZQuest Cobra+ 60Gb FireWire for a couple of months now and so far it has been trouble-free. If you're not incined to assemble your own with the Oxford chip, then I recommend the Cobra. At the time I think it had (by far) the fastest transfer rates of any off-the-shelf drive. They just came out with an 80 Gb model this week.

For the Maxtor, I've heard that if your hard drive is on the same firewire port as the camera you have droped frames during the capture (but it's working if it's on diferents firewire ports (depend if you have a tibook, which has only one firewire, or a G4 tower that has 2),

Can't find the info I posted about the deal on Maxtors anywhere now, so I think I'll delete it.
