I just got a 400 Mhz G4, I love it, its great!!! Except for two things the mouse and the keyboard. I ran off to my local computer store to get these things.
I was able to find a good keyboard quickly without problem, but great the variety of mice stumped me. So I left the store with just a keyboard, to think it over.
Can anybody recomend a good mouse to me. One with more then one button, good feel and good software. Price and color cordination aren't really a factor, but it would be nice.
Thanks!!!

I really like my XLR8 Point and Scroll, a two-button mouse with scroll wheel. The two buttons are programmable.
It is not as programmable as say, a Kensington four-button with scroll, but neither is it as expensive ($30). It comes in three colors, beige (yuck), black and ice.
I have the ice, which compliments my Bondi iMac or my G3/450 quite well.
I haven't had any problems on either machine.

We like the MacAlly iSweetmouse as our one-button mouse.
No one in our shop likes the multi-button mice, but we did have the Belkin USB scroll mouse (marked only as compatible with Win 98!) floating around to try.
Two buttons and scroll wheel, no software needed with it, worked out of the box when plugged into a G4 running OS 9. The wheel scrolled when it was supposed to, and I guess it's $25 or less.
I suppose one could get the shareware program that's out there (the name escapes me now) to reprogram buttons on the Belkin USB mouseif you like.

Microsoft's IntelliMouse Explorer is has five fully customizable buttons and requires no mouse pad or cleaning (it has a sensor instead of a ball).
Some people have had trouble with its shape but I think it is more comfortable than any other mouse.
Although the IntelliMouse Explorer is gray and silver, it does not match the G4.

Logitech Cordless 3-button with scroll wheel. (M-RN67) is my new squeeze.
I'd give this 4 out of 5 cheese snacks.
No OSX compatibility was promised but it seems to work well enough. Scroll wheel works in IE 5.1 would have liked 5 buttons but will deal wth 3,
The receiver also works if it is plugged into my iMac small keyboard so it is not picky about being plugged directly into the computer as some USB peripherals can be. Also worked in SuSE linux with no special set-up.
Drawbacks -- Gee why did I assme this would ALSO be optical? -- to me it makes sense that a mouse that is technically advanced enough to be cordless would also be optical but not in this case.
Requires 2 AAA batteries. A little heavy as a result, but then it's being slid around not picked up and down so it really doesn't make a difference unless you insist on light weight.
Mouseware software set-up is done in OS9 control panels.
Since my Kensington optical 5-button died on me I am sending it back to the company with a sharp letter since I got no satisfaction from either emailing support or Kensington's lousy website.
(Hanging on to that hockey-puck for emergencies.)
* Sure this is an old post to reply to but I htought i'd just add to the existing mouse info out there, rather than start a new thread.

I cast my vote for Logitech as well. I love my Cordless MouseMan Optical mouse. OS X compatibility is superb right out of the box, and Logitech's support is great. It's also great for gaming.

i recommend the logitech optical scoll mouse with two buttons. although i do like the apple mouse, mine died on me so i had to get a replacement.
if you're in toronto area, buy the mouse at a futureshop.. i went and bought one from cpused (a local mac store) and turned out that i got ripped off (49.99 vs 29.99 at futureshop) so i returned it and got one at futureshop.

I second rambo47, I used mine with as is in OS X and I just downloaded and started using usboverdrive to get some functionality out of my other two buttons. I always see a lot of people recommending the M$ intellimouse, but I didn't like the way it felt in my hand. The MouseMan is a perfect squeeze. To make some points about it, wireless and optical. One button on the left side (I have it set to double click) your two L and R buttons, scroll wheel which is also a button, I use it to launch sticky. I get about two months of use between battery changes ( recommend you use white or light colored surface to extent battery life). Good luck in your choice. One more thing, if you can go to a store and try both M$'s and logitech's mice.

Here's a fourth recommendation for logitech's wireless optical mouse w/ scroll wheel. Absolutely the best mouse I've ever used.

I appreciate everyone's replys, but as you can tell from the header I posted this two years ago.
I ended up getting an M$ Intellimouse Explorer.

Wow. Why on earth did someone go look up a post that's 2 years old and then reply to it? Just wow.
But as long as we're recommending mice, I'd like to plug my brand new MouseMan Dual Optical. Basically I wanted the great ergonomic design of the Cordless MouseMan Optical, but without the added weight and incredibly slow refresh rate of a cordless mouse. The dual optical feature really shows no difference whatsoever, but I suppose it's neat to say I have two.

I tried the two logitech cordless mice, the optical and the non-optical mouse and found that it caused significant sluggishness when scrolling. So much so that I had to go back to the apple wired pro mouse. But these mice worked perfectly on the WINTEL XP machine.

Is anybody here using MacAlly's microMOUSE? It looks like Apple's Pro Mouse but has two buttons and a scrolling wheel. Price isn't that bad either.
Any comments appreciated! (OS X -compatibility, accuracy etc.)
