I have a rev a G3/266 with an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card. Connected to the card are two different 9 gig HDs. I'm trying to connect a Yamaha CDRW8424SX to the external SCSI port with a 68 pin to 50 pin cable. However, my computer will not start up when the CDRW is connected. I've tried with different SCSI IDs and with termination on and off.

Will this configuration work? Am I better off just trying to connect the CDRW to my G3's built-in SCSI? Any help is greatly appreciated.
