I recently purchase a Microsoft Intellimouse. Part of the reason I bought it was because I wanted to get away from having to clean the mouse. My old Apple mouse would get dirty very quickly, and the roller ball would start sticking.

The new Intellimouse works beautifully, and there's no insides to clean, but the four "pads" on the bottom of the mouse are replacement "dust-picker-uppers." After a few days, the mouse starts sticking to my desk, making it hard for tiny movements of the mouse.

I've cleaned and Pledged my desk constantly with no improvement. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, do you have a solution?

Thanks,
Jamie

Yup, I have that problem also. Every week or so I just wipe or scrape the pads off. It's not a big deal.

My problem with the mouse is that it freezes alot. In a second or so it works, but very annoying. Anyone else having this?

Not only do the pads get dirty, inevitably little hairs get stuck in the depression below the sensor causing the mouse to stick or jump around. I also found the provided software to be pretty unpredictable and instead bought USB overdrive which is more consistent.

I have not had any problems with the mouse and have had only one conflict with a program. It tracks well on my Apple mousepad.

I believe that pledge is a waxy substance that would contribute to your problems. Why not just use a mousepad?

One of the reasons why I purchased this mouse was so that I could free myself from mousepads, but it looks like I may have to start using one again.

I think that the Pledge is your problem. I've got one running on a plain table top (hand-me-down, never gets cleaned furniture) and have had no problems.

I used Pledge to try and get rid of the problem, but you're right, it's not helping.

Someone mentioned the mouse freezing for a couple of seconds. I've seen this happen, too. The problems appears to be a USB power problem. If I plug the mouse into my keyboard (an Adesso Nu•Form), it'll freeze periodically. If I plug it directly into my PowerBook, it does not do this. Perhaps a powered USB hub would also do the trick.

I have been using mine on a mouse pad and after about 45 days of use, it still works flawlessly, plus, the bottom "pads" are kept shiny.

86 the pledge..that stuff is noxious and gummy. Use an alcohol based cleaner.
The intellimouse has worked flawlessly for me and i'm about as much of a slob as you can find.

re: Purchased USB overdrive = less buggy

The Microsoft provided software with the mouse IS usb Overdrive as licensed from the software author, so that would not appear to be the solution that you have encountered.

I have been using my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for about 60 days with my G3 266 Wallstreet Powerbook. About a week ago it began to shut down (the red light goes out) and I cannot seem to get it to keep working without a restart. And then it only works for about thirty minutes. I have it connected to a CardBus to Dual USB in my PC slot. I thought I had it fixed by reinstalling the Microsoft downloaded software. But it still does not stay on. Any suggestions?
