iPod restarts my computer

I connect my iPod to my Sony VAIO, and right away after it is connected it restarts the computer. If I leave it plugged in, the computer just restarts right away when the desktop comes up. Meanwhile, the iPod has the folder with ! icon and won't play music. What can I do?
