Hello everyone,

I was given a global village 56K/X2 modem and I'm trying to use it with my biege G3 266 desktop. I have run the firmware updater to update it to V.90 compatible (which my server is).

This modem connects (around 46000) and stays online for roughly 2 minutes, at which time it disconnects. This happens every time.

I have downloaded and tried different global villages modem scripts, and still have the same problem.

I have fiddled around with the ppp connection settings, but have had no luck.

To further troubleshoot, I temporarily replaced the modem with a Global Village kflex 56 modem (which has also been firmware updated to V.90). Everything worked great. So I know there is something specifically wrong with the modem/software (not a phone line problem).

Right now I'm using an old best data 28.8 modem. It is slow but stable.

I have tried contacting my ISP, but they haven't called back yet to help out with this problem. Can any of the great minds here lend me a hand?

Thanks,

lw

ps...I tried many times to run a search on this topic. Unfortunately, the search engine wouldn't respond.

Man, there is so much s associated with modem strings and such. You haven't "heard back from your ISP?" That's unacceptable. Your ISP has employees on-hand 24/7. Call and politely demand to speak to someone right away. Tell them that you can't get online and that you're going to DC your service unless you get the problem solved. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the modem. Good luck.
