I am looking at a CenDyne CD-RW 6x4x24x External SCSI drive as a backup solution for a small network. We have about 8 macs on an ethernet network and we used to back up on 100MB Zip disks using Retrospect. This started running into multiple disks so I decided to get something with larger media. I next tried an Orb 2.2GB SCSI Drive but in over 6 months of trying and having both the drive and disks replaced it never worked right. Now I am looking at CD-RW especially since we will also have the need soon of burning some of our own CD's for distribution.

My question is what are the advantages and drawbacks of using CD-RW as a backup medium in a low demand environment? I am especially interested in the life expectancy of a RW CD. How many times can it be reused and does performance suffer the more you use it?

Thanks for any input!
